Car Tuning

Making a convertible out of a Dodge Demon 170 costs mere $24k

Car manufacturer Dodge has officially authorized Drop Top Customs to rebuild the existing Challenger cars as convertibles. The first example has now rolled out of the garage – let’s have a look.

The important caveat is that the tuning company works solely with the limited-run Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. The roof gets deleted and the rest of the body receives sturdy aluminum braces to compensate. A folding soft top is added to the trunk area that you can raise and lower at a push of a button. Once the job is finished, you will struggle to identify the car as an aftermarket build.

As for the Demon 170 series, it’s a farewell edition for the Challenger in the USA, coming out in 3,300 examples before the production ends for good. Considering how rare and demanded these cars are, we wouldn’t expect more than a few dozen convertibles to be released, even though Drop Top Customs says it won’t artificially limit the production. The conversion itself starts from a low $24,000 before options, but the car pictured here cost its owner a cool $242,000. That’s partly because a new Demon 170 can be exceedingly difficult to find, and costs up to twice the MSRP.
