Aston Martin teases a next-gen V12, hints at Vanquish revival

The British automaker’s latest turbocharged V12 pumps out a healthy 835 PS (824 hp / 614 kW) and commands up to 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque. The company hasn’t revealed its volume or the first car it will go into yet.

What we do know is that the mill has been redesigned from the ground up with improved cylinder block and heads, new camshafts, and revised ignition/fuel systems. Using faster low-inertia turbochargers has also improved throttle response.

The company claims that only its most exclusive and special vehicles will ever get this engine type, and its production volume will be strictly limited. The first car to receive it will be a flagship of some kind, but there are still no details.

The short teaser video accompanying the announcement is entitled “All will be vanquished”. This sounds like a rather transparent hint at the company resurrecting its Vanquish supercar project with a new power unit at its heart. Aston Martin officially shelved the Vanquish project last fall, but it may have hit reverse on that decision.

If we had to speculate, we’d say the new Vanquish would be a FWD grand tourer designed to phase out the current DBS model. We should learn more about it later into the year.
