Tesla teases something that may or may not be its robotaxi

Tesla Inc. has shared a video on X that looks normal except for a few frames apparently depicting a car the company has yet to properly reveal. Judging by the lack of a driver seat, it’s the rumored Cybercab – a fully autonomous taxi concept.

One image depicts two rows of seats in front of a weirdly shaped, blank dashboard lacking any kind of controls or displays. The other one shows what appears to be the same car, but with an infotainment display on the dash. The steering wheel and other controls are nowhere to be found.

The biggest giveaway is that Tesla currently has no car that would look even remotely like this on sale. As such, it might be the company’s robotic taxi that it announced a while ago. CEO Elon Musk did say that it would be partially inspired by the Cybertruck and do without the steering wheel or pedals.

If Tesla is to be believed, the public premiere of the rumored Cybercab will take place on August 8, 2024. That said, the company is notorious for missing deadlines. Mass production is penciled in for “late 2025”, but that also falls under “believe it when you see it”.
